Summer Reading Challenge...
Help New River Middle School set a new District Summer Reading Record!
The Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge is on! Students who read over summers are more successful when school starts in the fall.
Beginning May 5, 2014, the Scholastic summer reading program invites students (ages 4-14) to help set a NEW world record for summer reading! This year’s theme is “Reading Under the Stars” and the global goal is 200 million minutes!
To help encourage Broward students to read over the summer, all traditional elementary and middle school students have been pre-registered for the Scholastic Read for the World Record online summer reading program.
Students who enroll in the Scholastic program can track the amount of minutes spent reading from May 5, 2014 through September 5, 2014 and help their schools compete to win a school visit from Author Gordon Korman!
The documents listed below include registration information and other support resources. Your child's Language Arts teacher will supply your child's username and password.
Once students login to the Scholastic website they can also access a variety of online literacy games and resources and download a “timer” app to keep track and submit minutes read via a computer or mobile device. Students may also track minutes read by maintaining a printed reading log and turning in the completed reading log upon return to school in August 2014.
The Department of Literacy has also created a district webpage with summer literacy resources for Broward students and families. The summer literacy webpage contains helpful information for parents and students to support and nurture reading, and online reading resources.
